3.0.2 Introduction to Design for Recycling at the Material Level
Course subject(s)
Module 3 Design for Recycling at the Material Level
In this module you will learn how different materials are sorted in the plastics recycling process. You will also explore the latest developments of material sorting and the implications of designing and manufacturing with recycled plastics. At the end of this module, you will apply this knowledge in a hands-on assignment. Good luck!
Learning goals
Upon completing module 3, you will be able to make informed design choices when it comes to applying recycled plastics. You will be able to consider the plastic’s properties (e.g. optical, mechanical, safety and hygiene) without compromising the circular treatment of materials.
-
- You will be able to explain the material differences between virgin (i.e. primary plastics) and recycled plastics.
- You will be able to explain the implications of designing and manufacturing with recycled plastics.
- You will be able to explain the impact of design decisions on the recycling process.
