3.3.1 Power and Electronics – Intro

Course subject(s) Module 3. Power, electronics and Structures

Now that we’ve peaked into the world of structures and have seen its possibilities, it is time to start thinking about powering and controlling the Pod. From our experience at Delft Hyperloop we can tell that energy storage on board will take up a lot of your mass, the same can be seen in Electric cars where the battery pack also makes up for a great part of the total mass. So for a full Hyperloop system it would be one of our interests to see if perhaps we can place the source externally like we have with electric trains.

In the second half we will discuss the navigation and control aspect of the system. GPS systems that are the most used method of determining position these days won’t function in either the steel tubes above ground or the underground tunnels.
