3.6.1 Module 3 Recap

Course subject(s) Module 3. Planning Smart Sustainable Cities Initiatives

We are concluding module 3 of this course. This module, we focused on the need and benefits of planning SSC initiatives. The main components, issues, solutions, and strategy activities were presented in the units:

3.2 Project Planning World Cloud

3.3 Strategic Planning for Urban Transformation

3.4 Smart Cities Applications

3.5 SSC Project Planning

3.6 Case Study: Bogotá Schools

Thus, topics from planning tools such as S.W.O.T analysis to digital mobile development step-by-step were addressed. As seen throughout the module, Smart Sustainable Cities are dynamic systems and therefore adequate planning depends on adapting the project to each case. This module presents techniques to define priorities, assist in managing crises and ensure smoother implementation. Therefore, we can highlight the modules’ main teachings:

  • how to do strategic planning step-by-step and use strategic planning tools;
  • identify basic concepts and characteristics of software;
  • understand the triple constraint of Project Management and the questions that must be assigned;
  • analyze real-case SSC project planning and apply the Strategic planning theory to them.

The importance of planning SSC initiatives presented in this module closes the first part of the HOW section of this course (How can cities become smart and sustainable?). Once the plan has been designed, your SSC project can begin and must be managed. Next module, we will continue answering this question, showing how can we manage SSC initiatives.
