4.5.4 Main Takeaways Data Interpretation

Course subject(s) Module 4. Data Collection & Analysis

  • To perform an appropriate and sound interpretation of data, you need to develop statistical literacy, i.e. the ability to interpret and critically evaluate statistical information and communicate and have well-argued discussions about your decisions.
  • Statistics are not an aggregation of facts but an instrument to investigate hypotheses.
  • Start simple with descriptive statistics and take care of the appropriate statistics relevant to the level of data you have collected.
  • Think about effect size and power when you do significance testing.
  • Always link back your interpretation to your hypothesis when writing up!
