4.5 Appendices

Course subject(s) 4. Reporting your findings

Appendices

The appendices of a report can be regarded as a storage space: report components such as Python code, long mathematical calculations or derivations or large amounts of data can be placed in an appendix rather than in the main body of the text. This way, they do not interrupt the flow of argumentation in the report. Instead, the main text can refer to the appendix when its information is used.

When writing appendices, keep the following points in mind:

  • Each appendix should have a single topic.
  • An appendix does not have a chapter number. Instead, it has an appendix letter: Appendix A, Appendix B, Appendix C.
  • Each appendix should have an informative title.
  • The information in an appendix should be relevant to the report. Each appendix should be mentioned in one or more in-text references.
