5.0 Nitrogen and phosphorus removal introduction

Course subject(s) 5. Nitrogen and phosphorus removal

Learning objectives

Welcome to the fifth module of this course, in which you will learn about nitrogen and phosphorus removal. This module you will learn to:

  • Recognise which organism is responsible for which biological process in activated sludge systems
  • Estimate tank sizes and recycle flows for nitrogen and phosphorus removal

In module three you already learned about the carbon cycle and the nitrogen cycle. One cycle was not yet discussed in the third module: the phosphorus cycle. To get inspired, please watch the following two movies about the phosphorus problem and a phosphorus-recycling system in Nepal.
