Dr. ir. Gabriëlle Tuijthof
I am passionate about the human body; especially the musculoskeletal structures have my interest. It is fascinating to discover how well humans are adapted to perform precise actions. With this interest and the drive to contribute meaningfully to society, I became involved in the field of arthroscopy (minimally invasive surgery in orthopaedics). Arthroscopy is highly beneficial for patients.
Like all other minimally invasive techniques, a drawback of arthroscopy is that it demands high surgical skills. My ambition as a mechanical engineer is to optimize the surgical performance of arthroscopy by development of innovative technology.
I am also associateprofessor at Delft University of Technology, Faculty of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering, Department of Biomechanical Engineering, Section MISIT leading my research group Joint Engineering.
