Important announcement

Dear visitor,

Please note that this OpenCourseWare platform will be replaced at the end of 2026 by a new platform (under the same url ocw.tudelft.nl).

Courses and their contents that are currently available the platform will partly be migrated. URL’s for this content will change and content might be unavailable for some time. In addition, some courses will not be available anymore.

If you are linking to specific courses on this platform (for instance for your students), please take timely measures to avoid problems with access. Possible actions are:

  • Download the materials to your local platform (laptop, server)
  • For educators only (including TU Delft lecturers): Contact us at ocw@tudelft.nl and inform us what course you are using in what context (institute, program, period of use, number of students). We will research (in collaboration with the authors of the course) and decide if we will migrate the course, and if yes, can supply you with a new url.

Thank you.

6a Introduction to Developing and Evaluating concepts

Course subject(s) 6. Developing and Evaluating concepts

Developing and Evaluating concepts

The creative phase of generating your design has started last lecture and is now well underway! We hope you have created many ideas inspired by your design challenge. In doing so, you have diverged to generate many different ideas and converged again to end up with three promising ideas.  So, after having discovered the domain of morning rituals and having defined a design challenge in the past weeks, you are now in the midst of the creative design phase.

This lecture, it is time to turn your ideas into concepts! Firstly, Jelle Zijlstra will explain how to develop your list of requirements further so that you can make an informed choice between your concepts later on. Then, Stefan van de Geer, one of our most experienced design lecturers at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, will explain what a design concept entails, how to develop it and how to evaluate them. His lectures should help you to come up with a single concept at the end of this series of lectures. To support you in concept development, Koos Eissen will talk about – and show – some simple sketching techniques.

Have fun!
