4.1.2 Standard project activities
Course subject(s)
4. Assuring value
Project management is about managing the right project in the right way. Several well known institutions and project management methods help us in identifying project management processes and activities (APM, IPMA, PMI, Prince2, etc).
Before mentioning some of these processes and activities, we distinguish plan-do-check-act (PDCA) as a relevant framework to start with. Think and make your plan, perform it, check whether you did the right things and act based upon the outcome of your “check” exercise. This acting likely includes an adjustment of your plan: please realize what are the consequences of these adjustments! As long as you communicate about any changes to earlier approved plans, it could work for the project. If you start implementing changes without communicating about it, your project is doomed to fail…. It is about proper scope management!
For us, the standard activities of project management include:
- Integration management,
- Stakeholder management,
- Scope management,
- Risk management,
- Quality management,
- Time management,
- Cost management,
- Human resources management,
- Communications management,
- Procurement activities.
