While the idea that almost 60% of the world’s population reside in urban areas is difficult to imagine, the more shocking statistic is that in 2014 there were 28 cities reported to have populations over 10 million! In India, the metropolitan region of Delhi is reported to have more than 27 million residents! The concentration and size of the population is on an unimaginable scale. Unfortunately, so too are their urban freight issues.

In our next video, Prof Sanjay Gupta will share with us some of the complexities of dealing with urban freight issues in New Delhi, India. Sanjay is a Professor of Transport Planning at the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA). With nearly 31 years of experience in urban freight and logistics, he is coordinator of the Associate Research Centre of the COE-SUFS at SPA Delhi.
