In this module you have deepened your knowledge on the main drivers of urban inequality and socio-economic segregation and the links between them. You have learned that there are many different ways to measure inequality and segregation, and you have learned how to interpret the most commonly used measures – Gini index for inequality and Dissimilarity index for segregation. If you have data, you can try to measure these indexes yourself!

You have also learned what the vicious circle of segregation is; it explains how segregation in one domain of daily life leads to segregation in another domain in an orderly fashion. You have also been introduced to how policies can contribute to break this circle.

Finally, by now you know that urban design interventions can help to reduce spatial inequality in cities. Five solutions were suggested:

  • Foster social resilience
  • Combine public and private interventions
