1.3.5 Teleportation

Course subject(s) Module 1. The Quantum Internet and Quantum Computers: How Will They Change the World?

“A transporter is a fictional teleportation machine used in the Star Trek universe. Transporters convert a person or object into an energy, then “beam” it to a target, where it is converted into matter.”

What is and isn’t possible with quantum teleportation? Can we teleport a human or send information faster than light? Quantum teleportation exploits the most fundamental principles of quantum mechanics and has far reaching consequences. However, in order to teleport a classical channel must be made.

Learn here how this intriguing concept works.

Main takeaways

  • Quantum teleportation is a method to send qubits using entanglement.
  • Quantum teleportation can transmit a qubit without really using a physical carrier.
  • It does not allow for faster than light communication.
