Module 1. Urgency and challenges with CRM and waste
In the lessons in this module we have seen the problems with critical raw materials scarcity and the problems with waste management. In the last two decades new philosophies on materials and products were developed to counter these problems.
Sophie Sfez goes through new philosophies as well as a situation of materials shortage in the past that lead to measures, of which we can learn.

- To maintain our quality of life, there is a need to switch from a linear to a circular economy
- Several concepts can be applied to implement circular systems, such as the 3Rs principle and the cradle-to-cradle and industrial ecology concepts
- High environmental but also economic and social benefits can be obtained from the implementation of circular systems
