In the second lecture the basic principles of the seismic methods (Chapter 2 of the reader) are discussed. The basic notation of seismic waves is introduced. It covers the differences between longitudinal (P) or as shear (S) waves. It also covers Huygens principle, Snell’s law and finally the principle of arrival times.
