4.4.1 Lecture 4: The value of flexible electric vehicle demand

Course subject(s) Module 4. Social Aspects

In this course we have often addressed the possibility of using electric vehicles for demand response purposes in the electricity system. But what is the actual value of providing flexibility and are there other solutions? This lecture by Remco Verzijlbergh PhD explains the value from a monetary and social perspective.

Learning goals for this lecture are:

      1. Understand why electric vehicles can contribute in demand response
      2. Learn how EV demand differs in elasticity from other types of electricity demand
      3. Understand how controlled charging can help at the household and national level
      4. Get an idea of the potential savings generated by controlled charging
