In the dynamics of motion systems module the students will learn about passive dynamics of motion systems in three lectures. The subjects of mass-spring systems, bode plots and modal decomposition are discussed.

Dynamics of Motion Systems I

In the following lecture the lecturer discusses the dynamics of motion systems. First, the concept of stiffness is addressed. After that the compliance of dynamic elements is discussed as well as the elements responses in the bode plots. The dynamic modelling of damped mass-spring systems is then discussed, especially the damping ratio and the energy that is stored in the system. Last, the transmissibility of a system is discussed.

Dynamics of Motion Systems II

In the following lecture the lecturer will continue the first lecture and he will focus on modal decomposition. First, coupled mass-spring systems and their equations of motion are discussed. Eigenmodes and Eigenfrequencies are covered next and modal decomposion is also adressed. Last, the lecturer discusses an example of modal decomposition.

Dynamics of Motion Systems III

In the following lecture the lecturer continues the lecture of the week before. The lecturer summarises the theory of the modal decomposition and continues with standard mechanical frequency responses.
