5.1.1 Introduction Module 5 ‘Program Management’

Course subject(s) Module 5. Program Management

You have done a great job so far and you are almost reaching the end of this MOOC. Dirk Sijmons made a nice video for you and shows some of the rivers from module 1.

In this module, we will focus on the management of the Room for the River program. Program architecture converges all aspects of the projects making it a holistic discipline.

Our learning objective for this module is:

  • to understand the intricacies of bringing together water safety, governance and spatial quality aspects into one integrated program with a long temporal horizon

In section 5.2 we will start with 6 different angles to consider and set-up program management.

After that we will have an interview with Ingwer de Boer, former director of the Room for River Program about lessons learned and the 3 trend breaks (new ways of dealing with floods, co-creation and spatial quality) and how this was organized.

Last but not least, we have the final assignment. This is about defining the characteristics of the program and then see what needs to be taken into consideration.

For a further introduction to this module, watch the video below. In addition we have a trailer about the program. When you watch this, take a critical look: what were the challenges?

Good luck!

This video introduces the strategies and achievements of the program space for the river. Besides giving space for rivers, the program gives special attention to landscapes and to collaboration among participants. The spatial quality focus was one of the primary keys to its success.
