6.1.2 Course Wrap up
Course subject(s)
Module 6. Conclusion
You have reached the end of the course. In the video below, Tillmann Klein summarizes what we discussed during the MOOC. He will take you through the principles of the Circular Economy and its aspects. Addressing these aspects from different perspectives is the thread that connects the different course modules. Let’s hear him talking once more.

MAIN TAKEAWAYS
- Circularity in the scope of the course is based on three working principles: first, minimazing resource use, water and energy leakage. Second, slowing, closing and narrowing energy and materials loops and third, avoiding disposal and loss of economic and ecological value.
- During the course we looked at the different levels of the build environment: product, building, neighborhood, and city and region.
- In module 1, we discussed the R-framework and relevant strategic approaches: Smarter use and manufacturing, Extended life span and End-of-life application.
- In module 2, we explored the product and material level. To understand their environmental impact, we analized the life-cycle of bricks. We discussed the role of DfD and ways to preserve materials’ value.
- During module 3 we focused on the building level. We explored the building as a composition of layers, as a circular business model and the relevant stakeholders.
- Module 4 explored the flows on the household, neighborhood and city scale. We looked in detail into energy, water and waste flows.
- Module 5 centered around circular metabolism. You had the opportunity to work on an exercise looking into the different impacts of thinking through scales.
