6.2.3 New business model

Course subject(s) Module 6. New business models and circular procurement

In waste collection some metals that should be retrieved are in such low quantities that recycling is not possible. With the rise of new business models this could change. Jan-Henk Welink explains.

Main takeaways

  • New business models also offer new opportunities to get grip on materials that are lost in the usual waste collection.
  • In these business models the critical raw materials are directed to one physical place. This makes it easy to dismantle them for refurbishment, repair or recycling.
  • For recycling there are two important advantages:

1. The critical raw materials are not mixed with other products that do not contaminate them. Cover the cost of price fluctuations of its raw materials.
2. The company retrieves its materials and can secure the material supply

  • Another advantage for companies retrieving their products is for customer relationships: More and more customers demand a responsible processing of obsolete products.
