Application of the technique: Score cards and SMART step 5
Course subject(s)
Step 5. Scenario analysis
During this course you practice the content by applying it to a case, either your own case or one of theĀ cases we provided.
Score cards and SMARTs help you to find robust alternative(s) that perform relatively well in many different scenarios (i.e., future states of your case). We invite you to make score cards and SMARTs using the action points Elianne provided you in the video. Also bear in mind the pitfalls she discussed. As a wrap up we have listed the action points and pitfalls below.
ACTION POINTS
- Create a score card for every scenario, scoring the alternatives on criteria
Create for every scenario you have a score card in which you score the different alternatives you identified on your chosen well-balanced set of criteria. - Create SMARTs for all of your actors
Using the score cards as basis, now make SMARTs. You make one for every actor you have identified in your complex problem situation. And, for every scenario. The number of SMARTs can be quite high. Most of the time, it is only interesting to make them if you program them into a computer and are capable of automatically comparing all these SMARTs to pick the most robust solution.
PITFALLS
- Is the direction of your criterion positive or negative?
- (Un)realistic weight factors
- Test sensitivity
- Highest ranked alternative is not always the best solution
