Fatigue Aerospace Engineering

Course subject(s) 6. Debriefing per case

In the section on fatigue, we focused on cyclic loading failures. As we discussed, this failure mode can be predicted. The aviation shield was given as an example and we tried to predict the failure mode. Below you can find the full video concerning the shield. It shows you how we performed the experiment and what the outcomes are.

Given the fact that things can break, the challenge is to understand the failure. The knowledge of accurately predicting failure is valuable and it is used during the design of an aircraft. As engineers, we are now able to design and use components that can be replaced before failure or we can make sure they perform its functions during their given lifetime.
