This lecture gives and introduction into the processes occurring in estuaries and focuses mainly on the following subjects:

  • Introduction into the characteristics of estuaries;
  • The origin and characteristics of astronomical tides;
  • The characteristics of storm surges;
  • Propagation of astronomical tides and storm surges into estuaries.
