Course structure
The schematic image below represents the information steps during a typical research project. The course image will be used to explain the different information steps during this course.
The journey starts with the step Analysing (blue):
- You start with a problem that needs to be solved (the question mark in the image)
- You translate the problem into a research question and sub-questions where needed
After the Analysis the journey continues with the step Searching&Evaluating (red):
- You define the information type that you need and select adequate resources herefore.
- With the help of a structured plan, you search and select reliable and relevant information from the mountain of available information.
The journey ends with the step Process (green):
- You store and annotate the information for later use (this needs to be arranged in time, like a train station)
- You use and cite the information to build your argumentation in your report and that is where this journey ends.
During the different modules the same structure is used. Every module contains 3 elements:
In the “In practice “, the process will be shown with an example and this includes references to the TUlib course material for detailed information. TUlib is the knowledge base from the TU Delft Library on information literacy. In the “Test-your-knowledge” you will complete several exercises to validate your understanding of the process. The Test-your-knowledge should prepare you for the “Final Test” at the end. All this elements combined should help you get a step-by-step overview towards your own research.
