The first part of this guest lecture is about the Dutch National Model System LMS. The lecture is started with an introduction. Then, the objectives and main principles of the system are given. Also, choice models and model estimation is discussed. The lecture is concluded with an overview of the strong and weak points of the system.
12b. Estimating base year matrices
The second part of this lecture is about the estimation of base year matrices. As an introduction, some background information on the topic is given. The student is also given an estimate of the size of projects. Then, the base-year estimation process is discussed. Thereafter, some results for NRM West 2004 are presented and the lecture is concluded with a few final remarks.
12c. Model development and basematrix estimation
The last part of the lecture is about model development. Two different categories are distinguished:
- Building models using existing model specifications and existing software
- Building models translating the estimated model specifications into software
Then, a quick overview of the ingredients needed to build a model are listed.
The next topic that is presented is basematrix estimation. After a short introduction, some problems for this process are listed. Next, the operation model QBLOK is discussed, developed by the company 4cast. Some general characteristics, validation of the model and focus points are discussed.
