2.1.7 Troubleshooting Ultra-Sonography
Listed below are some of the general errors that you can encounter while using an ultrasonic machine. Besides this, the causes and some possible solutions are explained next to it.

Error |
Cause and possible solution |
|
Equipment does not power up |
No power from the main socket- check if any other instrument runs when connected to that socket The main power cable is damaged- check for any visible breaks in the wire and damages to the plug. The fuse is blown- install a new fuse. If the fuse blows up too frequently, check the power output of the socket. It should match with the precified power input of the USG |
|
Noisy image- usually a flickering or a partial image |
Damaged probe- it is usually the wiring in the probe that can be loose. Check for any loose connections in the probe by opening it up. Sometimes, the fault is with the transducers. If it is so, replacement of the probe is the only option. If the problem persists then the problem is with the microprocessor containing the Digital signal processing circuitry. Check for loose connections. |
|
Poor image quality- poor resolution/ wavy image/ random change in the gray scale |
If the image has a poor resolution- Gel applied is insufficient If there is a sudden change in the gray-scale values the problem is usually with the preamplifier. Controls are incorrectly set- go through the settings of the modes of the device. Refer to the user manual to troubleshoot effectively. The user manual usually lists all the possible errors that can arise while using the software. Read the solution for the error that you have encountered and try implementing that Mains voltage is too low- you will need to use a voltage stabilizer. This applies only if the mains voltage varies more than the tolerance of the machine specified by the manufacturer (more than 10%). A really bad image quality can be a result of bubbles being present in the probe- replace the oil that is used in the probe |

Display errors/ computer errors |
Refer to the device’s manual to troubleshoot |
