2.3.1 Introduction to Urban Development Functions and Stakeholders

Course subject(s) 2. Urban Development Management

Introduction 2.3

You have now analyzed the bigger picture of our case study, by studying Rotterdam policies and real estate markets. We will now move away from the city level to the Rotterdam Central District and the Schiekadeblok urban area levels. We will discuss two main topics, urban development functions and stakeholders.

We have some new, more specific tools we want to make you familiar with: the stakeholder analysis and SWOT-analysis. You can use the first tool to investigate the interests and influence of actors (people and organizations) that are living, working or using an urban redevelopment area. The SWOT-analysis will be used to determine the strenghts, weaknesses, opportunities and threats regarding the Schieblock building and Schiekadeblok area.

We will first start with a video lecture, so you can become acquainted with the tools and their background. Similar to the preceding topics, we will again use the Schiekadeblok case to apply these tools.

Enjoy!
