Course subject(s) 2. Housing Provision and Management

What you will learn in this lecture

The case of Chile illustrates the consequences and the challenges of housing policies based on ownership. The relocation of vulnerable families from informal settlements to new houses in the periphery has led to new urban and social problems. Even though the informality has diminished, new challenges have emerged regarding the quality, maintenance and management of this housing stock. In this lecture you will explore the main elements of housing policies based on ownership, you will learn the main lessons derived from the case of Chile and we will discuss opportunities for bottom-up approaches and the inclusion of new actors in housing policies.
