3.1.1 What is module 3 of Energy Supply Systems for Buildings about?

Course subject(s) 3. Electricity production, rational use of energy and cogeneration

Welcome back everyone!

In the first two modules of this course, we discussed electricity in terms of efficiency, country emission factors and electricity mix. During this third module you will learn how electricity is generated and therefore also understand where these efficiencies and factors come from. While studying conventional electricity production, you will discover that heat is always delivered as a byproduct and you will learn what the reuse of this otherwise wasted heat means for the total efficiency. This is what we call Combined Heat and Power (CHP). After this we will switch to renewable based turbine technologies for electricity production, and finally you will discover which role hydrogen and fuel cells could play in the transition towards renewables.

Have fun with this module!
