3.1.4 Main Takeaways on Quantitative Research Methods

Course subject(s) Module 3. Research Method Selection & Study Design

In general, there are three types of measurement:

  • Categorical (binary or nominal data),
  • Ordinal,
  • Continuous (ratio or interval data).

In quantitative methods, a dependent variable is measured as an effect of manipulating the independent variable.

Remember: Correlation research does not imply any causal inference!

Independent and repeated measures experimental research design can be differentiated by whether all participants received different treatment or the same treatment.
