3.2.1 Inspiration

Course subject(s) Module 3. Connect your mind

In this section, we will provide some links to inspire you

Examples

First of all, you can check out the winners of previous runs of this learning experience. Their work has been added to the VPRO Hall of Fame. For example Catie Glover’s video about AI and Health care.

Of course, besides this learning experience, others have already published about the topic, for example, in the article Artificial Intelligence in Home Robots – Current and Future Use-Cases in TechEmergence the author describes how robots in the home are expected to increase in the coming years. After providing different examples the article concludes by discussing some ethical and privacy concerns that may arise over the next decade in the robotics industry.

In Robots, not humans: official policy in China in the New Internationalist some of the effects of employing industrial robots in factories are described such as the deepening polarization of labour.

This Infographic shows the laws that Isaac Asimov, Google and Microsoft wrote to keep robots on our side.

Furthermore, numerous research papers have been written about dealing with ethical and societal issues raised by, for example, healthcare robotics exploring various ways how policy can support innovations and experiments. You can google these using key words such as ‘Responsible research and innovation’, ‘Ethics’ and ‘Robotics’ and the like.

Mind of the Universe Footage

Also remember, the Mind of the Universe footage of the interviews with scientists is open source. You are allowed, invited even, to use, edit and recompile this material. It may be interesting to use this in your final challenge solution. This video by VPRO explains the opportunities of this open source project:
