4.1.2 Which track do you want to follow?

Course subject(s) Module 4. Choose your track

For the upcoming stage, you will be able to choose which track you want to follow:

  • I Technical solutions: This track will guide you to perform basic analyses of critical raw materials through methods such as criticality assessment, process-model based life cycle assessment, resource-reserve dynamics, substitution potential analysis and sustainability assessment. You will understand the basic technical compositions of these methods and acquire the skills to follow and reproduce them.
  • II Circular solutions: This track will provide you with an overview of solutions on a systemic level, such as circular economy, design for recycling, circular product design and circular business models. You will be enabled to identify the various linkages of critical raw materials and the required systemic approaches in order to manage CRMs sustainably, and learn how to close material loops on various levels. You will learn to link circular strategies to the different levels of the supply chain. You will gain the ability to identify common hurdles to circularity of CRMs and know the drivers to reduce them, including those that can be implemented on a business level.
  • III Policy solutions: This track focuses on the political environment related to CRMs. Relevant policies – such as certification programs, trade agreements and regulations – are introduced and their impact on mining, use and recycling of CRMs analysed. You will be enabled to identify the various linkages of critical materials to climate targets and the SDGs, and get familiar with a methodology to analyse and balance stakeholder preferences in order to inform policy decisions.

You have access to all the material related to the different tracks. In order to gather an in-depth understanding, we advise you to follow through carefully the track you are most interested in. However, feel free to also look at the other tracks’ material.
