Course subject(s) 5. Wind Energy

Wind Energy

In the first four weeks you have learned about the use of energy, the potential for renewable energy, energy balances and renewable energy policies. The coming five weeks we are going to dive deeper into Wind Energy, Solar Energy, Biomass, Power networks and Storage.

This module is about Wind Energy. Carlos Simão Ferreira, Axelle Viré, and Henk Polinder are this week’s lecturers. First we are going to look into the market of Wind Energy. Then we will look into more depth into wind as a source, aerodynamics, the relation between wind speed and power, and the transmission of the electricity from the turbine to the consumer. You will also learn about future trends in Wind Energy.

The module ends with the first pro/con analysis assignment. In this assignment we will present two cases to you. You are asked to compare placing a wind park on land or on sea.
