Field investigation 5
Course subject(s)
4. Aerospace Engineering
You and Holmes meet with the pilot of the aircraft, Derek. Holmes starts interviewing him.
Derek: “Good day, my name is Derek. I was the pilot of this aircraft. Nothing was wrong with the aircraft; all maintenance and inspections were performed before the flight. It was a great flight. Sunny and no wind. The speed and handling of the aircraft was excellent before I came to land at the Airport. I selected the gear down and made a perfect landing. But just when I thought the gears would hit the runway the aircraft kept going down. I heard metal noise and scratching. I don’t know what went wrong.”
Holmes: “Thank you Derek. Can you tell me if there was anybody else on-board?”
Derek: “Yes, three friends were on-board: Karel, Arjo and Michiel. They are uninjured and are now sitting in the restaurant.”
Holmes: “Do you have the manual of the aircraft? I’d like to have a look at the landing gear schematic”.
Derek: “Sure, here is a copy. If you need me, I’m in the hangar. “
