There is a strong interaction between a wave and a wave damping structure like a breakwater. This interaction is visible in front of the structure (reflection), on the slope of the structure (run-up) and behind the structure (overtopping and transmission). This chapter summarizes these interactions. Attention has to be paid to the order of magnitude of the effects.
