This lecture deals with the water distribution in an irrigation system and focuses on two different subjects:

• Farmers and irrigation: the distribution in currently used irrigation systems is discussed, together with the reactions of the farmers when the distribution is not as they wish it to be.
• Irrigation: water control: the main issues of water control will be discussed. These main issues are distribution of water amounts, upstream or downstream control and type of structures. For each issue examples and design possibilities are given.

Finally some tips are given for the design exercise
