2. Work and Energy
Course week(s)
2. Work and Energy
This modules starts with a short recapitulation of the fictitious forces as discussed in the first module of the course. Thereafter, the principles of work and energy are elaborated. Therefore, conservative forces are defined. It is shown how to derive the kinetic energy of a rigid body. In this derivation, the inertia tensor is explained and it is shown that the components of this tensor depend on the nature of the reference frame. Furthermore, generalized coordinates, generalized momenta and generalized forces are elaborated.
One sample problem is given in the module and can be found in the exercises of this module.
