Block 4: Material Nonlinearity

Course subject(s) Block 4: Material Nonlinearity

Material, or physical, nonlinearities are treated in this lecture. It starts by listing various sources of possible nonlinearities in a material and its properties. The lecture focusses on plasticity and creep.

The practical assignment can be found on this page and the homework assignment for this block can be found on this page.

Stress invariants are introduced at 0:35:28, after which inelastic materials and the equations needed to model this inelasticity are treated starting from 0:49:34. The video then proceeds to treat several stress-strain criteria, of which the Huber – von Mises criterion is treated extensively after 1:04:38, in a multiaxial isothermal model.
