2.3.1 Complete the journal activity

Course subject(s) 2. Is your course ready to be blended?

Below is a short whiteboard animation of the Blended Learning Wave.

The audio is from Apple earbuds and you can hear the sound quality difference from other videos that utilized standard headphones with a built-in speaker plugged into the computer.

Reflection Goal

The goal of this activity is for you to review your current course in order to see how many activities you currently have for each week/module and whether or not your students need conversations with peers or you or whether the activity could use an online format. Try to verbalise some challenges you feel you may face.

Task

Please journal in your word document in a way that you can remember what you wrote when you reflect back at the end of the course.

  • Is your course already blended, and do you have online resources ready to introduce your students to the topics you cover? Or have you been relying heavily on lectures and face-to-face sessions to transfer knowledge and skills to your students?
  • Are there tools and activity types that seem an obvious fit for the content of your course and the objectives you want your students to meet? Or do you struggle to see how to translate your current design to work with the tools available?
  • When do your students need to interact with you the most, and can you already think of ways to reshape your interactions into online formats, or is this going to be a challenge?
  • Find activities on your study guide or syllabus and add them in the template, consider which would be a good fit for the online format and which would be bettter in person
  • Do this for as many activities as you can and be as specific as possible.
  • Consider whether these activities are synchronous or asynchronous.
  • Reflect on challenges you may face.
