Three general barriers for refurbishment:

  • Perception: the idea that refurbished products are of lesser quality.
  • International trade barriers and other regulatory barriers can make it difficult to trade refurbished products or components.
  • Commitment from top management. Closing the loop through refurbishment needs to be a strategic business decision.
