The second lecture of this course deals with the subsoil. The heterogeneous build-up of the underground: origin, structure and quality, but also the variation in groundwater levels, pore pressures, quality of the groundwater and special circumstances. We will look at the deformation of underground structures depending on: applied construction techniques, external influences and actual status, in relation with sustainability and finally to ecology.
