3.9.1 in-depth introduction

Course subject(s) Module 3. Longer Lasting Products

Each weekly episode concludes with an in-depth exploration of some aspect of the Circular Economy. This gives us the opportunity to address obscure and controversial issues. If you enjoy a deep-dive, followed by an online discussion, please join. The in-depth sessions are optional. They are not graded and do not contribute to the certificate.

This in-depth session looks at Planned Obsolescence: this means the design of products with an intentionally limited useful life.

Is planned obsolescence linked to the linear “sell more, sell faster” economy and should the concept therefore be discarded in a Circular Economy? Or, could planned obsolescence perhaps be beneficial in a Circular Economy? David Peck explores this idea on the next page.
