2.4.1 Lecture: DC-DC Converters – Part 1

Course subject(s) Module 2. Battery Technology for EVs

Now that we have an idea about the charging voltage of the battery, it is also important that power from the grid or the regenerative braking system for charging is delivered at the required battery voltage. In this lecture, Prof. Bauer will explain how this is done through DC to DC buck converter.

Learning goals:

    1. List the two types of DC to DC converters
    2. Understand how does DC to DC converters work.
    3. Explain the operating states of a buck converter.
    4. Derive the relationship between the input voltage and output voltage of a DC to DC buck converter in terms of duty cycle.
