Block 4: Material Nonlinearity Example

Course subject(s) Block 4: Material Nonlinearity

In the last lecture of this course, examples are elaborated on the blackboard to further explain the material covered in the slides. The lecture portrayed in this video extends the knowledge gained in the previous lecture. It again focusses on the Hubert – von Mises stress criterion as it is the most relevant criterion for aerospace engineering materials.

After a short recap of the previous lecture, material hardening is introduced at 0:03:50. The implementation of the equations into a finite element model is treated from 0:38:32 onwards, starting with writing the ‘recipe’ for the stepwise computation on the blackboard. In this stepwise computation there is a difference between what has to be done in the first iteration cycle of a load step m and in subsequent cycles of that load step. These differences are covered at 0:56:10, with the steps taken in cycles 2,3,… starting at 1:00:45. The procedure for the next load step m+1 is given at 1:05:14.
