Lectures on Urbanisation and Housing
Course subject(s)
On Urbanization and Housing
Sustainable Urbanization in Japan
Sustainability and Urbanisation in Japan: sustainable water management systems , sustainable energy management systems and system application to Bangkok. A presentation by Prof. ZAJun Matsushita from the Shibaura Institute of Technology.
Floating Cities
Water can be used as sustainable space utilization, as an alternative for urban expansion towards valuable areas like the green hart. Floating buildings are also less vulnerable to floods and droughts than traditional urbanization is. New modes of urbanization are needed with increasing urbanization and increasing vulnerability of deltas to climate change. A lecture by Rutger de Graaf Deltasync.
Sustainable Housing Transformation
There are and must be better alternatives to demolition of existing buildings. The sustainable housing transformation strategy offers such an alternative. Buildings are being transformed in order to meet current standards. Also energy efficiency is improved, to reduce CO2 emission. This lecture is about how and why housing transformation can be done, and should be preferred over demolition.
Amsterdam: Energy Neutral City
This is a presentation about the ambitions of the city of Amstedam to achieve a CO2 neutral municipality in 2015, and a 40% CO2 reduction in 2025 (compared to 1990). The focus of this presentation is on how to make all municipal building CO2 neutral before 2015.
(slides are in Dutch, lecture is in English).
WWF: Its program and new building
The program of the WWF focuses on five areas: freshwater regions, oceans and coastal regions, forest regions, climate and threatened plant and animal species. Within these areas projects are elaborated such as the FSC and MSC certificates. Besides the WWF’s program, the WNF in the Netherlands has just moved into a building that has a low energy use and in which sustainable energy sources and sustainable materials are used.
