Bending Moment in Beams: Summary and Further Reading

Course subject(s) 4. Bending Moment in Beams

Summary of Key Equations

In this unit, we derived only one new equation: the Flexure Formula

\[\sigma=\frac{My}{I} \]

However, we did also bring up a few things that are review and that you are expected to know for this course. Bending moment diagrams, shear force diagrams, locating the centroid of a cross section, and calculating the second moment of area of a cross section are all capabilities you need to employ in solving bending problems. Thus please be sure you review your Statics course notes as a refresher on these topics if needed.
