In this lecture formation of rocks in nature will be taught. A basic understanding of elements and the formation of minerals is needed. Therefore, this lecture begins with explanation of elements, the most fundamental substances into which matter can be separated by chemical means. This will be followed by explanation of mineral, naturally formed solid material with a specific chemical composition and a characteristic crystalline structure. Finally the formation of rock will be explained.
