Part 2: Tensors and Deformation Analysis

The second part of this book is on tensor and deformation analysis. The eight chapters in this part are devoted to the tools and techniques for quantifying patterns and processes of rock deformation. Practically this means a mathematical treatment of stress and deformation tensors. The application of the mathematical techniques treated in this part of the book provide pathways to understanding which are relatively easy to appreciate. Stress, strain and deformation tensors are first introduced after which their applications are highlighted.
