7.3.1 Introduction to Bonded and Welded Joints
Course subject(s)
Module 7. Joining of Structures and Manufacturing
Can we glue or fuse aircraft?
The second joining method we will look at is known as Adhesive Bonding. You may know this by the more informal terminology of glueing. Adhesive bonding is a process that was widely used in the early days of wooden aircraft, but is more challenging to apply today, despite being more efficient. In the following lecture we will look more closely at the bonding process and the challenges associated with applying it in the aerospace industry.
We will also examine a third joining method – Welding. In this joining method, we actually fuse two parts together, effectively making a single part.
