Lecture 2: Marine Geology and Fundamentals of Acoustics
Course subject(s)
2. Marine Geology and Fundamentals of Acoustics
The earth is covered by water for more than 70% which means that there is more seafloor than landmass. This lecture is about the seafloor and its features and properties. The various sediments, their geo-acoustic parameters and the effect they have on the interaction of sound with the seafloor will be discussed. Chapter 2 of the Reader is downloadable in Readings.
In this lecture the fundamentals on acoustics are being discussed. After a short introduction about the sound waves, the parameters and properties of the waves will be defined. An overview of a few equations is given and exercises are included in the slides. Read more about the fundamentals on acoustics in chapter 3, which is downloadable in Readings
