Blocks 2, 3, and 4 include homework assignments to help the student better understand the theory. These homework assignments provide a link between the analytical solution gained from the theory and numerical solutions extracted from models.

Block 3 uses the classical benchmark problem of Hertzian contact in its homework assignment. This problem has already been introduced in the lecture. After a literature research to come up with an analytical solution for the problem, it also has to be modeled numerically using Abaqus or a similar Finite Element software package such as Code_Aster – SALOME.
